COMMON GROUND ON HEALTH CARE

Americans currently pay twice as much for healthcare as countries that cover everyone, while we leave almost 50 million people uncovered. Moreover, our insurance companies are incentivised by the current system to reject payment for needed treatments of those they do insure. No other country does this.

  CLIP ONE
This first clip from the movie Sicko begins with a short bit regarding the British way of compensating doctors. Then there is a piece of an interview with Tony Benn of the British Labour Party (former Prime Minister Tony Blair's party), where Mr. Benn speaks well of democracy. Then there is a heart-breaking piece about an American woman's struggle with her health insurance company. Finally, we meet a young man that had to leave the US for France to get proper treatment for his cancer.
  CLIP TWO
This second clip immediately follows the first in the sequence of the movie. It begins with a French doctor speaking well of the principle of solidarity. The rest of the clip primarily revolves around an eye-opening discussion with Americans living in Paris that speak about their experiences in the French health care system, and other aspects of French life.

  CLIP THREE
This last short clip again follows the previous clip in the sequence of the movie. It is a frank discussion with a French family living in Paris that talk about their experiences as people living in the French economy. The purpose of the discussion is to show that even though this family lives in a high tax society (needed for all the services they receive), such a system does not necessarily produce impoverished citizens, but rather a better standard of living with less personal debt and fewer financial worries.
